Amani Johnson

Southeast Michigan Regional Coordinator

Amani is on our Advocacy & Outreach (A&O) team as our Southeast Michigan Regional Coordinator, a role focused on organizing voters in support of environmental issues and working to elect candidates for office who want to protect our land, water, and air. Amani brings a wealth of experience in education, politics and electoral work.

Prior to joining the Michigan LCV team, Amani worked on several campaigns at all levels of government. Through his first experience in electoral politics as an intern on Rep. Brenda Lawrence’s 2014 campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives, Amani realized the importance of electing good candidates to public office and has since dedicated his career to that work. From his work with Elizabeth Warren to the Michigan House Democrats, Amani has a breadth of experience working with candidates at all levels of government.

A life-long Southfield resident, Amani is a proud graduate of Central Michigan University where he earned a degree in Public and Nonprofit Administration. In 2020, Amani was elected to the Southfield Board of Education at age 23 and subsequently became the youngest elected official in Southfield’s history.

In his spare time, you’ll find Amani cooking up delicious meals, traveling the world, spending time with loved ones, and binging his most recent Netflix obsession.
