Voter Protection
Our Democracy For All team is dedicated to empowering Michigan voters by connecting them to essential resources and support, ensuring they can exercise their voting rights with confidence – whether voting from home, in-person before Election Day, at their polling location, or when registering and voting on the same day.
Thanks to Proposal 2 passed by Michigan voters in 2022 and subsequent implementation legislation, Michigan has strengthened voting rights protections and expanded access to the ballot. Now, every Michigan voter can be confident their right to vote is protected and they can vote in a way that works for them, with new measures like nine days of early in-person voting, expanded absentee ballot drop boxes, and robust protections against voter intimidation.
We also serve as and recruit volunteer workers poll observers, and challengers, partnering with the ACLU of Michigan and the NAACP of Michigan to provide thorough training. In 2020, our Democracy For All team led a coalition alongside the Secretary of State’s office to tackle poll worker shortages by educating the public on how to engage with clerks and navigate the poll worker application process.
The insights gathered from our observers help us identify and address any issues voters may face, which also informs our work with local election officials to improve voter experiences. Building on this success, we work closely with local clerks to ensure that our poll worker recruits are well-trained and ready for upcoming elections.
From months before Election Day through the counting and certification processes, we are always working to ensure Michigan’s elections remain free, fair, and accessible for all.
