Are you ready to vote? Register to vote today!
If you have a valid Michigan state driver's license or state ID, you can register to vote or update your registration online. Go to mi.gov/vote to register.
If you’ve never registered to vote in Michigan before, you must register in person. Simply visit your city or township clerk's office anytime before 8 p.m. on Election Day and provide a document showing proof of residency. The document must include your current address and can be in electronic form.
You may show a:
- Michigan driver’s license or state ID
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck
- Government check
- Another official government document

Vote Early!
You can now vote before Election Day in Michigan for statewide and federal elections! City and township clerks and other early voting locations will offer nine days of early voting ahead of the November election. You can also take your absentee ballot to your city or township clerk’s office or early voting site and submit it into a tabulator during Michigan’s 9 days of early voting leading up to Election Day! Vote Absentee!
Michigan voters can vote by requesting an absentee ballot via mail or directly at a local clerk’s office beginning 40 days before each election. You can also join the permanent absentee ballot list by simply checking a box on the application – and automatically receive an absentee ballot every election!
Vote via Drop Box!
Don’t have time to make it to the polls? No problem! If you have an absentee ballot, you can cast your vote by returning the ballot in its sealed envelope to a secure drop box in your community. Ballots must be returned before 8 p.m. on Election Day. Find a secure drop box >>>
Vote on Election Day!
Haven’t voted absentee or voted early? Head to the polls on Election Day to cast your vote! Polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You must go to your specified polling location on Election Day and all Michigan voters who get in line at their polling location by 8 p.m. have the right to vote – no questions asked.
